Molly is the local telephone switchboard girl, who happens to listen in to people's calls especially those involving Jack Reddy, whom Molly has a crush on. But Jack has eyes only for the flighty heiress Sylvia Hesketh. Sylvia agrees to elope with him, but before that can come to pass Molly hears someone else trying to cut in. Sylvia doesn't turn up for her rendezvous with Jack, and hours later is found at the side of the road over a hundred miles away, her skull caved in.

Geraldine Bonner

Geraldine Bonner (18701930) was an American author, born on Staten Island, New York. Her father, John Bonner was a journalist and historical writer. As a child, Geraldine Bonner moved to Colorado where she lived in mining camps. After moving to San Francisco, California, she worked at a newspaper, the Argonaut, in 1887, and subsequently. She wrote the novel Hard Pan (1900) and used the name Hard Pan as a pseudonym.

Bonner wrote short stories which were published in Collier's Weekly, Harper's Weekly, Harper's Monthly, and Lippincott's.
