Murder Of A Lady: A Scottish Mystery (Aka A Silver Scale Mystery)
Anthony Wynne
A locked room whodunit from the Golden Age of detective fiction
Mary Gregor is found dead in Duchlan castle, a rather creepy and forbidding place in Scotland's highlands. In classic locked room tradition, she has been stabbed to death but the room is locked from the inside and the windows are barred. The only tiny clue to the murderer is a fish scale found next to Mary's body.
Inspector Dundas is dispatched to Duchlan to unravel the mystery where he finds complicated half-truths as more deaths, also seemingly impossible, seem to happen. Superstitious theories abound but luckily for Inspector Dundas, the gifted amateur sleuth Eustace Hailey is on the scene, and proceeds to crack the case.
