QC Indian Polity: How our democracy really works

Dr Sangita Sharma

Did you know the first municipal corporation in India dates back to 1688? Or that the world's first democratically elected communist government was formed in Kerala?

This is a bitesize guide to the world's largest democracy and its longest written constitution, built for readers who want to grasp the essentials of Indian polity without wading through dense academic texts.

Starting with the historical roots of Indian polity, from ancient republics and monarchies to today's legislative, executive and judicial system, the book explains how the constitution shapes the lives of over a billion people. With tables, flowcharts, photographs and plenty of trivia along the way, it makes for an accessible read as much as a useful reference.
